Terms of use

Effective date: 1 June 2026·Last updated: 4 July 2026

These Terms govern your use of the PlatePal mobile app, published by SupportU LLC. By using PlatePal you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1 · PlatePal is a screening aid, not a ruling

PlatePal helps you screen packaged foods against religious, lifestyle, and allergen requirements. It is not a religious ruling and not medical advice. Verdicts are informational and can be wrong or incomplete. When it matters, consult your certifying authority or a medical professional, and always verify the product label yourself, especially for allergens.

2 · No guarantee of accuracy

Product information comes substantially from Open Food Facts, a community database that expressly disclaims accuracy and completeness. PlatePal's ingredient guidance is a screening layer and may contain errors. We do not warrant that any verdict is correct, that an allergen will always be detected, or that a product is safe for you. Allergen detection is provided on a fail-closed basis (when in doubt, we warn), but you must not rely on it as the sole basis for a safety decision.

3 · Allergen and safety disclaimer

If you have a food allergy or intolerance, treat PlatePal as one tool among several. A “not detected” result reflects only the data available and does not guarantee a product is free of an allergen. Cross-contamination and labeling errors occur. Your safety is your responsibility; verify the physical label and contact the manufacturer if unsure.

4 · Subscriptions

PlatePal offers an optional premium subscription. Allergen detection and core safety features are always free and are never placed behind the paywall. Subscriptions are billed through the App Store or Google Play under their terms; prices, trials, and any promotional or retention offers are shown in-app before purchase. Manage or cancel through your store account. Your subscription entitlement is carried across devices via RevenueCat when you sign in.

5 · Acceptable use

Use PlatePal only for lawful, personal purposes. Do not misuse, reverse-engineer for circumvention, or attempt to disrupt the service or the third-party services it relies on (including Open Food Facts).

6 · Contributed content

Contributing product data and label photos is on by default; you can opt out in Settings → Data & contribution. When you are signed in, contributions with a barcode are shared to PlatePal's community product database, and may be shared onward to Open Food Facts under its open database license in a future step. By contributing, you represent that you have the right to share that content and you agree it may be made available under Open Food Facts' open database license. Do not contribute content that is unlawful or that you do not have rights to.

7 · Intellectual property

The PlatePal app, brand, and our proprietary ingredient guidance are owned by SupportU LLC. Open Food Facts data is provided under the Open Database License (ODbL) and remains the property of its contributors; we attribute it in-app.

8 · Disclaimers and limitation of liability

PlatePal is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any harm arising from reliance on a verdict, a missed or incorrect allergen result, or inaccurate product data.

9 · Changes

We may update these Terms; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
