Delete your account & data
This page explains how to delete your PlatePal account and associated data. PlatePal is a mobile app published by SupportU LLC. It applies to the PlatePal app shown on the App Store and Google Play.
If you stay signed out, your dietary profiles, allergens, and history live only on your device. Clear them anytime in Settings → Account → Delete my data, or by deleting the app. If you have signed in, your synced data is stored on our servers; delete all of it in-app from Settings → Account → Delete account. Your subscription record held by our provider, RevenueCat, is deleted on request by email, as described below.
Delete your account
Signing in to PlatePal uses Sign in with Apple or Google. While signed in, your dietary and faith profiles, allergen selections, scan history, saved products, settings, household members, product photos, any coverage-gap records, and any alternatives-watch records are stored on our servers (Supabase) and sync across your devices. To delete that account and the data associated with it:
- In the app, open Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes all of your server-stored data (scan history, saved products, settings, household members, product photos, coverage-gap records, alternatives-watch records, and your account record) and is completed immediately on our servers.
- To also delete your RevenueCat customer record (the anonymous app-user id, your sign-in user id, and the associated subscription/purchase history held by RevenueCat), email platepal@supportu.ai with the subject “Delete my PlatePal account.” Send it from the email address you signed in with, or tell us which provider you used (Apple or Google) and the approximate date of any purchase so we can locate your record. We complete this within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
- Revoke PlatePal's sign-in access from your provider so the link can't be re-created:
Apple: Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple → PlatePal → Stop Using Apple ID. Google: Google Account → Security → Your connections to third-party apps → PlatePal → Remove access. - Optionally, delete the app to clear any remaining on-device data. (Deleting the app removes all on-device data.)
In-app account deletion is immediate. We confirm RevenueCat deletion requests by reply once processed.
Delete some or all of your data (without deleting your account)
You can remove data without giving up your subscription link:
- On-device data (dietary & faith profiles, allergens, strictness, custom avoid-list, scan history, saved products, display name/email, notification preferences): clear it yourself anytime with Settings → Account → Delete my data in the app. This is immediate and needs no request to us.
- Server-stored synced data (if you are signed in): use Settings → Account → Delete account to remove all of it from our servers in-app.
- Off-device data held by RevenueCat: email platepal@supportu.ai with the subject “Delete my PlatePal data” and tell us what to remove. We process it within 30 days. Note that deleting purchase records may end your ability to restore an active subscription on that identifier.
What is deleted, and what is kept
Deleted
- All server-stored synced data (profiles, allergens, scan history, saved products, settings, household members, product photos, coverage-gap records, and alternatives-watch records), plus any product contributions stored under your account in PlatePal's community database, when you use Delete account in the app. This is immediate.
- All on-device data (profiles, allergens, history, saved items, display name/email, settings), when you wipe data or delete the app.
- Your RevenueCat customer record (anonymous app-user id, sign-in user id, and the subscription/purchase history RevenueCat holds), on request, within 30 days.
Kept (and why)
- App Store / Google Play purchase records. Apple and Google process and retain your transactions under their own policies (for tax, accounting, refunds, and fraud prevention). We do not control these; manage your subscription through your store account and see Apple's and Google's privacy policies.
- Data already shared onward to Open Food Facts. Contributions are on by default (opt out in Settings → Data & contribution before sharing). While you are signed in, your barcoded contributions are stored under your account in PlatePal's community product database, where they are deleted when you delete your account. However, if a contribution has been shared onward into the Open Food Facts public database (a future step), that copy becomes part of its public open database under the ODbL and cannot be recalled by us.
- Records we must keep by law (for example, to comply with a legal obligation), and minimal request logs needed to evidence that we honored your deletion request.
Retention
In-app account deletion removes server-stored synced data immediately. Deletion requests for RevenueCat data are completed within 30 days. On-device data is removed immediately when you wipe data or delete the app. Data retained by Apple, Google, or within the Open Food Facts public database is kept for as long as those parties' policies require; we have no ability to delete it on your behalf.
