Halal snacks list
Very few mainstream US snacks are actually halal certified. This list splits 27 products, checked on 2026-09-12, into three honest groups: certified with a named certifier, likely OK because the current ingredient list has no pork, gelatin or alcohol but carries no mark, and avoid because gelatin or a pork ingredient is confirmed. Every row links to the exact source we read today.
Lists go stale. Scan the pack in your hand.
A manufacturer can change a recipe, swap a supplier or launch a new flavor at any time, and the printed label updates before any article does. Treat this page as a starting point checked on one date, not a permanent verdict. Scan any barcode in PlatePal for a live read on the exact product in front of you.
Halal certified in the US
These are the only snacks on this page where we could verify a real, named certifier directly on the certifier's or brand's own site today. Most mainstream US snack and candy makers publish no halal certification at all, which is why this group is short: we checked IFANCA's own certified-companies directory, Islamic Services of America's client pages and the Halal Food Standards Alliance of America, and cross-checked candidate brands against their own sites, and dropped every candidate we could not confirm live rather than guess.
| Product | Status | Why | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saffron Road Crunchy Chickpeas (Falafel and Bombay Spice) | Certified | Saffron Road's own site states plainly that all Saffron Road products are halal certified by IFANCA. These chickpea snacks are sold nationally in US grocery stores. | 2026-09-12 |
| Midamar Halal Beef Jerky (Original, Teriyaki, Hot Honey) | Certified | Midamar's own halal certificate page says it works with several halal certification bodies and "most often" with Islamic Services of America (ISA), and ISA's own site lists Midamar among its clients. The three jerky flavors are current products on midamarhalal.com. | 2026-09-12 |
No animal ingredients listed but not certified
This is the largest group, and the one most snacks fall into. Each product's current US ingredient list, read directly from the manufacturer or from Open Food Facts today, has no pork, gelatin, animal rennet or added alcohol. None of them carry a halal certification mark, so PlatePal calls the ingredients likely OK rather than certified. A shared production line, an undisclosed flavor compound or a future recipe change could still affect any of these; likely OK is a read of today's label, not a guarantee.

Chips Ahoy and other chocolate-based snacks above use dairy milk chocolate rather than a halal-neutral coating, and chocolate bars generally carry their own certification questions; see the halal chocolate list for a dedicated rundown.
Lay's Classic is the simplest entry in this group, and its full flavor by flavor read, including the ones that add cheese powder or natural flavor, is at are Lay's halal. Swedish Fish also gets its own page, walking through the current gelatin-free US formula and the vegan claim printed on the bag, at is Swedish Fish halal. Snacks like these with no animal ingredient at all sit alongside plenty of other chips, cookies and candy on the accidentally vegan snacks list.
Cheese-flavored chips deserve a separate note. Cheddar and other cheese powders use enzymes that can come from vegetable, microbial or animal sources, and the source is rarely named on a US label. Are Doritos halal breaks that question down flavor by flavor, including Frito-Lay's own list of products confirmed to not use pork-derived enzymes, and the same enzyme question gets its own flavor by flavor check at are Cheetos halal and are Pringles halal. Takis, a rolled and fried corn chip with a chili lime coating rather than a cheese powder, gets a separate check at are Takis halal.
Contains pork enzymes or gelatin, avoid
These products have a confirmed pork ingredient, or gelatin with no disclosed source and no halal mark, which PlatePal treats as pork risk by default rather than assuming the best case. A halal-certified version of some of these does exist in other markets or through specialty distributors; the row below describes the standard US version found on typical shelves.
| Product | Status | Why | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welch's Fruit Snacks, Mixed Fruit | Concerns | The ingredient list names "pork gelatin" outright. Not a source question, an explicit pork ingredient. | 2026-09-12 |
| Life Savers Gummies | Concerns | Gelatin is listed with the animal source undisclosed and no halal mark on the pack. Treat as pork risk by default. | 2026-09-12 |
| Starburst Original | Concerns | The current US ingredient list includes gelatin, contrary to the assumption that Starburst uses only fruit pectin. Source undisclosed. | 2026-09-12 |
| Pop-Tarts Frosted Strawberry | Concerns | Gelatin appears in the current US ingredient list. Source undisclosed and no halal mark on the box. | 2026-09-12 |
| Kraft Jet-Puffed Marshmallows | Concerns | Gelatin is confirmed in the ingredient list, and Kraft Heinz's own brand page states no sourcing or halal claim. Undisclosed source, treat as pork by default. | 2026-09-12 |
| Campfire Marshmallows, standard recipe | Concerns | Campfire's own FAQ states its regular marshmallows are made with porcine gelatin, reserving beef gelatin only for a Middle East export recipe. | 2026-09-12 |
| Haribo Goldbears, standard US bag | Concerns | Haribo's US FAQ confirms a separate halal line exists on request, but never discloses the gelatin source in the everyday US Goldbears bag, so treat the standard bag as pork risk by default. | 2026-09-12 |
See is gelatin halal for why pork, beef and fish gelatin get different rulings, and do marshmallows contain pork for the marshmallow question in full, including the brands that use beef or fish gelatin instead. Starburst's own flavor by flavor breakdown, including why its fruit chew reputation does not rule out gelatin, is at are Starburst halal. Pop-Tarts get the same flavor by flavor treatment, since the frosted flavors and the unfrosted ones do not share a gelatin answer, at are Pop Tarts halal.
Frequently asked questions
What is the halal snacks list for the USA?
This page is a US-only list, checked on 2026-09-12, split into three groups: snacks that carry a real halal certification we verified, snacks whose current ingredient list has no pork, gelatin or alcohol but no certification mark, and snacks confirmed to contain pork gelatin or an undisclosed gelatin source that a halal shopper should avoid without a mark. Every row has a live source.
What is a good halal candy list?
Very few mainstream US candies carry an actual halal certification. Most of the candy on this page, Jolly Rancher, Twizzlers, Swedish Fish, Sour Patch Kids and Now and Later among them, is in the likely OK group: no gelatin or pork in the current formula, but no certifier's mark either. Skittles, checked separately on Are Skittles halal, falls in the same likely OK category. Haribo Goldbears and Starburst are the opposite case: both contain gelatin from an undisclosed source, so they land in the avoid group here.
What is a halal chips list?
Plain chips are usually the easiest category. Lay's Classic, Fritos Original and Ruffles Original all use potatoes or corn, vegetable oil and salt, nothing animal derived. Cheese-flavored chips add a dairy question rather than a halal one; see Are Doritos halal for how cheese powder and its enzymes are judged flavor by flavor.
Does no pork or gelatin in a snack mean it is halal certified?
No. An ingredient list clearing every obvious halal objection only earns a likely OK label on this page, not certified. Certified means a named certifier, such as IFANCA or Islamic Services of America, has audited the product and its supply chain, including things an ingredient list does not show, like shared equipment and enzyme sourcing. Saffron Road and Midamar are certified on this list because we could verify a named certifier live. Everything else in the likely OK group is a reasonable bet, not a guarantee.
Which snacks contain pork enzymes?
Frito-Lay states that pork-derived enzymes are used in some of its cheese seasonings, but the company does not publish which products contain them. Instead it publishes the opposite, a list of snacks confirmed to not contain them, covered flavor by flavor on Are Doritos halal. Any cheese-powder snack not on that list should be treated as an open question rather than assumed clear.
Why does this list say to scan the package instead of trusting the list?
Because formulations change without warning. A manufacturer can swap a supplier, change a recipe or launch a new flavor, and the ingredient panel updates before any list like this one does. Every row here was checked on 2026-09-12 against a live source, but that source can be different by the time you read this. Scanning the exact package in your hand checks today's label, not a snapshot from a page.
Are Doritos, Oreos or Skittles halal?
Each has its own full page, because the honest answer needs more than one line. Are Oreos halal covers the US ingredient list and the vegan cross-contact question. Are Doritos halal breaks the pork-enzyme answer down flavor by flavor. Are Skittles halal covers gelatin, carmine and a kosher status that depends on the code on the bag.
Is Haribo on this halal snacks list?
Yes, in the avoid group. Haribo's own US FAQ confirms it offers halal products on request through its Consumer Care team, but it never states the gelatin source used in the everyday Goldbears bag sold on US shelves. Without a printed halal mark, PlatePal treats that standard bag as pork risk by default. Is Haribo halal covers the country-by-country picture in full.
What this page is not
Allergens. PlatePal screens ingredient data, so this page is information and not medical advice. A recipe can change before the data does, and shared equipment never appears in an ingredient list. Always read the label on the package in your hand, and follow your allergist or doctor over any app.
Religious status. A screening result is not a religious ruling. Certifiers and schools of thought differ, and PlatePal does not rank them. For anything you hold yourself strictly to, ask a qualified authority or the certifier you already follow.
Data checked on 2026-09-12. Formulations change; verify your package.
