Kosher candy list

We checked close to 40 mainstream US candy brands directly against the OU's own live product database on 2026-09-12 and kept the 26 that actually returned a verified match, plus one gelatin-free gummy. Most chocolate candy is certified Dairy. Most fruit and hard candy is certified Pareve. A separate, and often missed, question is whether any of it is certified for Passover, which almost none of it is by default.

Lists go stale. Scan the pack in your hand.

Certification can be added, dropped or changed for a specific line at any time, and a manufacturer can reformulate without warning the shopper. Treat this table as a snapshot checked on one date, not a permanent verdict. Scan the barcode in PlatePal for a live read on the exact bag in front of you.

What candy is kosher?

Candy is kosher when it carries a kosher certification mark such as the OU, and 26 mainstream US candies below returned a verified OU listing on 2026-09-12. Most chocolate candy is certified Dairy and most fruit and hard candy is certified Pareve.

These Halloween favorites are OU certified in the table below, checked 2026-09-12.

OU certified mainstream candy, Dairy or Pareve

Every row below is exactly what the OU's own live product-search database returns today for that brand, not a summary from a blog or a retailer listing. We queried the database directly, brand by brand, and recorded the product name as the OU lists it, the certifier, and whether the OU marks it Dairy or Pareve.

For the same chocolate bars checked against halal certification instead of kosher, see the halal chocolate list. Certification is also a separate question from gluten, which most of this candy never states either; the gluten free candy list covers that read instead.

Kosher for Passover is a separate question

A candy certified kosher all year is not automatically kosher for Passover. The OU's own glossary defines a distinct term, Kosher L'Pesach, kosher for Passover, as a product made under continuous rabbinic supervision and free of leaven and legumes, stricter and narrower than ordinary certification. That is why the OU keeps a whole Passover category in its consumer FAQ hub, fielding questions about foods that are unquestionably kosher the rest of the year but still need a separate answer for the holiday. None of the candy in the table above should be assumed kosher for Passover unless the specific package you are holding carries a Passover mark, usually printed only on seasonal holiday packaging rather than the everyday version of the same bar. Chocolate spreads raise the same dairy and Passover questions from outside the candy aisle; see is Nutella kosher for how the OU treats Nutella specifically.

Gelatin in gummy candy: pectin is more common than fish gelatin

Gelatin is the standard reason a gummy candy needs its own kosher check; see is gelatin halal for how pork, beef and fish gelatin are treated differently. Fish gelatin is the traditional kosher workaround, but live checking today could not confirm that combination, a real hechsher plus a disclosed fish gelatin ingredient, for any mainstream US candy brand we tried. The OU database lists dozens of Paskesz products as OU-P certified, but no Paskesz gummy returned a match, and the Paskesz gummy bears product page blocked automated access, so we could read neither its hechsher nor its ingredient list. A related kosher confectionery brand, Elyon, currently lists no gummy products at all on the Kayco brand page that distributes it. The gummy we could fully verify skips gelatin entirely instead of switching to fish.

What "kosher-style" does not mean

"Kosher-style" is a flavor description, not a certification. The OU's own consumer guide warns against reading kashrus into an advertisement or a phrase: it cannot be assumed that kashrut is maintained simply because a kosher impression is created by an advertisement or by a statement such as "we serve a kosher clientele," and it specifically calls out "vegetarian" or "dairy" labeling that shoppers mistakenly treat as kosher on its own. A "kosher-style" candy or deli item is seasoned or produced the way a kosher shop traditionally would be, with no rabbi or certification agency behind it. The printed symbols on this page, OU, OK, Star-K and Kof-K among them, are the only marks that carry actual supervision. If the word "style" appears anywhere near "kosher" on a label, treat it the same as no claim at all.

Frequently asked questions

What is the OU kosher candy list?

It is a list of mainstream US candy brands PlatePal checked directly against the OU's own live product database on 2026-09-12. Every row above shows exactly what the OU database itself lists: the product name as certified, and whether it is Dairy or Pareve. We tried close to 40 candy brands and could only verify 26 with a live OU match, plus one gelatin-free gummy; the rest are named below as dropped rather than guessed.

What is a kosher pareve candy list?

Pareve means neither meat nor dairy, so it can be eaten with either. On the table above, Skittles, Twizzlers, Jolly Rancher, Laffy Taffy, Airheads, Dum Dums, Ring Pop, Mike and Ike and Hot Tamales are all listed pareve by the OU. Most chocolate and caramel candy, anything built on milk chocolate, caramel or a dairy filling, is listed Dairy instead, including M&M's, Snickers, Twix, Reese's, Kit Kat and Hershey's classic bars.

Is chocolate candy kosher dairy or pareve?

Almost always Dairy. Milk chocolate contains milk directly, and even candy that reads as dairy-free on the ingredient panel is frequently produced on shared equipment with dairy products, which is enough for a certifier to mark it Dairy rather than Pareve. Every chocolate bar on this list, Snickers, Twix, Milky Way, Reese's, Kit Kat, Butterfinger, Baby Ruth, 3 Musketeers, Whoppers, Milk Duds, Almond Joy and Mounds, is OU-Dairy.

Does kosher certified mean kosher for Passover?

No, and this trips up more shoppers than any other kosher question. The OU's own glossary defines Kosher L'Pesach, kosher for Passover, as a separate certification standard: no leaven or legumes, made under continuous rabbinic supervision. A candy can be certified kosher all year and still not carry a Passover certification, because Passover adds chametz and kitniyot restrictions that ordinary certification does not check. The OU's own FAQ hub keeps an entire Passover category for exactly this reason, covering products that are unquestionably kosher year round but still get asked about separately for the holiday. Look for a specific Passover mark, usually printed only on holiday packaging, rather than assuming your everyday bag qualifies.

Are gummy candies kosher, and do they use fish gelatin?

Less often than the common belief suggests. We expected to find several mainstream kosher gummy brands built on fish gelatin, the traditional workaround for gelatin's kashrus problem, but live checking today could not confirm that combination for any candy brand we tried. The OU database lists dozens of Paskesz products as OU-P certified, but no Paskesz gummy returned a match, and the Paskesz gummy bears product page blocked us, so we could read neither its hechsher nor its ingredient list. A related brand, Elyon, currently lists no gummy products on the Kayco brand page that distributes it. The one brand we could fully verify, Yum Earth, is OU pareve certified for its organic fruit snacks and gummy fruits and uses no gelatin whatsoever, gelling with pectin instead. That is the more common route to a kosher gummy: skip gelatin entirely rather than switch to fish.

What does kosher-style mean?

Nothing you can rely on without a real symbol. The OU's own consumer guide warns directly against assuming kashrus from an impression or a phrase: it cannot be assumed that kashrut is maintained simply because a kosher impression is created by an advertisement or by a statement, such as, "we serve a kosher clientele," and points out that "vegetarian" or "dairy" restaurant labeling is often mistaken for kosher when it is not. "Kosher-style" candy or deli food is a flavor and marketing description, spiced or seasoned the way a kosher deli traditionally would be, with no rabbinic supervision behind it. A printed hechsher, like the OU, OK, Star-K or Kof-K symbols used throughout this page, is the only reliable signal.

Why isn't Swedish Fish, Nerds or Werther's Original on this list?

Because we could not verify a current OU, OK or Star-K listing for the retail candy itself on a live search today, even after trying multiple query variations. Swedish Fish, Nerds, Pez, Werther's Original, Andes Mints, Lindt, and the classic Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar and Life Savers rolls all returned no matching product record, only unrelated licensed items or ingredient-supplier listings. Rather than guess, we left them off. If your bag carries a printed hechsher, trust that mark over this page.

How often does this candy list change?

Certification can be added, dropped or change by product line at any time, and a manufacturer can reformulate without notice. Every row here reflects what the OU's live database showed on 2026-09-12. Scan the barcode on the bag in front of you in PlatePal for a check against current data instead of trusting a snapshot from this page months later.

What this page is not

Allergens. PlatePal screens ingredient data, so this page is information and not medical advice. A recipe can change before the data does, and shared equipment never appears in an ingredient list. Always read the label on the package in your hand, and follow your allergist or doctor over any app.

Religious status. A screening result is not a religious ruling. Certifiers and schools of thought differ, and PlatePal does not rank them. For anything you hold yourself strictly to, ask a qualified authority or the certifier you already follow.
